Discover Oktoberfest with TAP Air Portugal

Don't leave your trip to Oktoberfest until the last minute and book your flight to Munich, Germany, while taking advantage of the best offers. TAP Air Portugal has regular direct flights from several European and international cities to Oktoberfest in Munich. Travel with family or friends with TAP and experience one of the oldest festivals in the world.

1. About Oktoberfest

It is considered the largest beer festival in the world and its history dates back to 1810, the year in which it was held for the first time to celebrate the wedding of King Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. Today, it brings together millions of people to celebrate Bavarian culture with lots of beer, bratwursts (traditional German sausage) and lederhosens (typical leather shorts). On average, between 6.5 and 7 l of beer and 280,000 sausages are consumed in each edition. Bavaria's six leading breweries are present every year with dedicated tents.

2. When it takes place

The festival is generally held on the first Saturday after September 15th and ends on the first Sunday in October.

3. Where it takes place

Theresienwiese Park in Munich is where the world's largest beer festival takes place. This park receives, annually, nearly six million visitors during the 16 days of celebration. There are up to 600,000 people present in the venue each day.

4. How much does a beer cost at Oktoberfest?

The price of a beer at Oktoberfest can range from EUR 14.50 to EUR 15.80, according to information taken from the event's official website.

5. What to do at Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is a celebration that goes far beyond beer. This festival, known all over the world, has many attractions to discover, some of them designed for children. The Wellenflug, a popular carousel that has been present at the festival since 1919, the Willenborg Ferris wheel, the symbol of the festival since 1979, or the classic Toboggan are some of the main attractions among more than 30 designed for children and adults.

6. What to know before going to Oktoberfest

Using public transport is the best option to get to Oktoberfest. Theresienwiese station (lines U4/U5) offers the most direct access. Entry to the venue is free and doors open from 10 AM. Another recommendation to take into account is not to carry backpacks or bulky bags, as there are several security restrictions on access to the venue. Finally, book your stay in advance, as prices increase considerably as the festival date approaches.
